What if...?
Often I hear questions like these from people who are aspiring to live the life of their dreams or even reach a desire outcome or goal:
“Why can’t I get more of what I want?”
“Why don’t I let the little stuff go?”
“Why can’t I just be happy and enjoy my life?”
“Why do I let ‘X’ bother me so much?”
“Why can’t I put myself out there?”
It takes courage to ask these questions and even more courage to be open to the answers.
What if the answer to these questions went something like this.....
“You can’t let yourself have what you want, let the little stuff go, put yourself out there, fully embrace your life and those you love because you did that once upon a time and it broke your heart or hurt you in some way. Human beings are brilliant at adapting. If something hurts once we see it as a threat and find a way to ensure that hurt never happens again. We shut off the part of ourselves that was vulnerable to the pain. We find fault and blame in the ways of others, especially those who are closest to us. We ensure we don’t let them in too much at all costs. We find blame to justify keeping them at a distance even though the thing we might want most is to free ourselves from the bonds of the past so we might live more fully and love with all our hearts once again!”
